Hi, The PRISMDB/VT Web issue has occurred again. The database is currently not mounting/opening correctly, and the Oracle listener is showing the instance as BLOCKED rather than READY. As a result, VT Web is not coming back online. The issue was previously fixed, but it has now recurred. We would like to have PRISMDB restored and brought back to a READY state. Additionally, could you please investigate why the Oracle/VT Web service is not surviving routine Windows updates? We would like to identify a permanent fix, including verifying the service's stored authentication/credentials and confirming the correct procedure for stopping and restarting the Oracle database during future Windows patching. Hello Moheb, Please send me the TeamViewer ID and password, and I can take a look at the system. In the meantime, could you please check with your IT team whether they are performing backups of the E:\Oracle drive? Improper backup methods can cause Oracle services to stop functioning correctly, and in some cases may lead to database corruption. The AOI server should have an Oracle database backup utility available on the desktop that can be used to back up the entire database to an external drive. If your IT department is using third-party backup software, please confirm one of the following: The backup solution is Oracle-aware and includes the proper Oracle database backup provisions without impacting database operation. The E:\Oracle drive is excluded from file-level backup operations. Please let me know what backup software is being used and whether the Oracle drive is included in the backup scope. This information will help determine the root cause of the recurring issue. Good morning Saqib - below is the TeamViewer connection details for you to use; I will stay connected for now - just send a message via the Chatbox if needed. Regarding the recurring nature, this is unfortunately happening due to Regular Windows Updates Installation and Restarts. We have disabled unattended restarts, hoping to have a durable process documented before long (any direction or guidance is appreciated). Hello Suleman, We were able to recover the database with Moheb's assistance. It appears that something is changing the Oracle database state. The database service starts successfully, but it is not opening automatically. To restore operation, I had to manually change the database state to MOUNTED and then OPEN it. This type of behavior is often caused by backup software interacting directly with Oracle. Are you currently running any full or incremental database backups? Many backup solutions offer Oracle-specific modules or agents that can perform backups without impacting the database state. It would be helpful to review your backup configuration to determine if it may be contributing to this issue. Please let me know if you have any questions. Good afternoon Saqib, No, currently we're not running any database backups against that server, and there's no backup software on it at all. I went and checked the machine directly so you'd have something firmer than my recollection. No backup agent installed, Windows Server Backup isn't even an installed feature, no shadow copies, all nine VSS writers reporting Stable with no error, and no VSS or backup events in the last thirty days. The only inbound SMB session is the VTS workstation writing its logs to G:, and nothing reads E:\oracle. Next suspicion was Real-time Protection from Sophos - but Sophos reports the machine healthy, no alerts on the tenant, no detections on the box in sixty days, nothing quarantined, and PWDprismDB.ora is present and unchanged since the May 2024 install. Stumbled into oradim.log and it shows the DB Startup failing on authentication every time: Aug 15 03:42:58 shutdown ORA-01012 not logged on Aug 15 03:53:22 startup ORA-01017 invalid username/password Aug 17 16:40:44 shutdown ORA-01005 null password given Aug 17 16:53:53 startup ORA-01017 Aug 18 08:46:33 shutdown ORA-01005 Aug 18 08:59:02 startup ORA-01017 [cid:C2_signature_a01b44c0-004c-4367-8632-f32bf2492cec.jpg] Suleman Manji SR.
