Hello, This is Gavin Blanton from the Dan-Mar Company Inc. For the past day, our OMRON AOI has been occasionally displaying an error after loading a panel. The error reads "An error has occurred in the communication with the projector unit. Lane 1: Turn OFF power and contact OMRON Corporation". A picture of the error message has been attached. Apologies for the glare. My only guess is that this error is related to a power outage we had last week. Please get back to me as soon as possible on how to fix this problem. Machine model: OMRON VT-S530-DU Serial number: 0034517-0034 Thank you, Gavin Blanton

Hello Gavin, This communication error could be caused few different ways. I would first start by checking hardware connections, power down AOI and verify all cable are secure going to projectors and back of PC. If all connections appear secure open PC device manager and go to COM ports, send us a image of current COM port settings. Thanks

I could not find any loose connections. I've attached the settings I believe you need to see. The communication ports all have the same settings as the one in the picture. I noticed that COM6 is not present in the list of ports, but I'm not sure if this is supposed to be the case or not. Thanks again, Gavin Blanton

Hello Gavin, Thanks for update. We will need to review the latest log file, this may shed some light on cause of error. Can you please navigate to AOI PC location C/Program Files/Omron/S530/Log. Log folders are by date, can you send us latest log folder on a date error occurred. Thanks,
C

Tony, Attached is a zip folder containing the last several days of logs. Please let me know if we can provide anything else. Thanks, Vince ________________________________

Hello Gavin, Thank you for your patience while we reviewed your logs. We’ve completed an initial analysis of the VT-S530 system and wanted to share an update on our findings. From the data you provided, the software is intermittently losing communication with the projector unit during image capture. The logs show that communication through the serial channel (COM7) opens and closes normally, which means the PC, drivers, and communication port itself are functioning correctly. The issue occurs when the system tries to send a trigger signal to the projector unit, but does not receive a response in time — resulting in error 0x0283A001. At this point, our assessment suggests the issue is hardware-related on the projector side, rather than a software or COM-port configuration problem. Possible causes include: Intermittent response failure from one of the projectors (the system uses two), Loose or oxidized signal cabling between the trigger board and the projector unit, or A power or internal controller issue inside the projector assembly. We’ve submitted a formal inquiry to Omron Japan for deeper analysis and to confirm which component is most likely at fault. Once we receive feedback from their engineering team, we’ll provide you with the next recommended steps, which may include specific component checks or part replacements. For now, please keep the system powered off when not in use, and if the error reappears, note whether both projectors are projecting light or if one appears inactive when the message occurs — that information will help us correlate with Japan’s response. Thank you again for your cooperation and detailed information. We’ll update you as soon as we have additional guidance from Omron Japan.

Jeremiah, Thank you for the update. I'll keep you posted if I see the error occur again. I hope to get additional information from Omron Japan soon. Thank you again, Gavin Blanton

Hello Gavin, The exact root cause of communication errors has been difficult to pinpoint. We strongly believe the cause could be in a projector but cables going to unit could also be at fault. As a complete failure has yet to occur the best actions for now are to be reactive. When time allows, please power down AOI machine, reseat all cables connected to both projectors (check for any damage of cables at this time). If you don't already have a spare available, please order a spare projector to have on hand in case of a complete failure of existing unit. Part number is VKPS-9500566,we can send you a quote if needed. Thanks

Good morning, If you could, please provide a quote for the spare projector unit. I'd like to get moving on that asap to minimize downtime. Dan, I'd like either you or Trevor to take a look at the cables and connections running to the projector to see if you can spot any issues. Thank you, Vince ________________________________

Just to clarify, our AOI model is "VT530" and not "S530". I don't know if that makes a difference in which projector is quoted, however, I wanted to make sure we quote the correct one! Thanks, Vince ________________________________

Hello Max, I'd like to piggyback on this conversation to also request a quote for an annual PM service visit for both machines (provided the projector issue with machine 1 can be solved). I believe the last time this was performed was September of 2024 (for calibration and other maintenance services). If that visit could also include some assistance in troubleshooting this issue with the projector that would be very helpful. We did try to check for projector cable damage and proper connector seating, but it's difficult to trace all of the cables to their opposite end, so we were only able to check the ends connected to the projectors. Hello Dan, Max will provide the requested quote. Based on Omron Japan’s recommendation, we should replace certain cables and, as a last resort, the projector. Therefore, Max will include pricing for the cables and the onsite visit in the quote.

Hello Max, A day or so after you sent this quote over, our tech was able to locate a loose projector connection that he re-seated. And that seems to have done the trick in resolving our projector communication error. The system has been running with no issue since then. So I think we can cancel the cable kit for now and just schedule a basic annual PM visit for the two machines. Can you please send a revised quote for just that service?
