Current case

Customer issue

Hello Omron Support Team, We are reaching out to ask if you are able to give an explanation and/or diagram on what the "Side Joint Length" criteria inspects for on a gull wing leaded component, like the one shown in the attached image? The example in the manual that I attached shows it for a chip component whose electrode is entirely touching the pad. This makes it unclear if the side joint length criteria measures the fillet joint length compared to the start of the electrode or from the start of the electrode bend that touches the pad. We are also unsure what "inspection window (a) or (b)" is referring to. The goal is we are trying to inspect the Gull Wing leads on a SOT-23 part by only inspecting the side joint solder length percentage. (minimum 75% of the lead length that contacts the pad/land has solder wetting). We sometimes run into not enough solder fillet on the toe of the gullwing lead which is acceptable per IPC and our own SynQor criteria and we do not want the machine to call it out for that but to still have a reliable solder detection using the side joints. Please advise on how to set such a criterion. The current values we have for the side joint length on the gullwing leads as 100% for the values of the samples in the picture; they look good to us physically as well. Thank you, Olivia Pisacano Process Quality Engineer SynQor, Inc. [email] Phone: ([phone] x1556

Hello Olivia, Can we schedule a TeamViewer session for 30 minutes to walk you through this process. It is difficult to communicate via e-mail. Please let me know your next available time we can do this. Best regards, Jeremy

Hello Olivia, Side Joint inspection as you know is to perform inspection on the sides of the lead as next image shows it. The calculation method is likely the point of concern. According to the manual: “The system measures the side joint length at a position equal to α% of the Fillet Height within inspection ranges (a) and (b).” Here, α% corresponds to the fillet height, which is derived from the logic called “Connection Block Height.” For example, if the connection block height at the toe is 30%, the machine will measure the side joint length starting from the toe toward the electrode end until it encounters a solder height lower than 30%. What you can probably use is "Height Specified Region", look at the screenshot, I turned on that logic and draw 2 windows on the sides to measure solder height. Let us know if this answer your question
